You're In Brookelynn: Book Reviews!

Book Reviews!

Guys, this might be the nerdiest thing ever, but I just got a library card for my college town's library, and I am SO excited. As a kid, I used to read alllll the time, but once I got to high school I seemed to loose the time for it. I'm super excited to pick it back up, though! So, I decided I would do a review every month or so on the books I've been reading lately!

Gulp by Mary Roach // I had seen soooo many bloggers raving about this book over the last few months, that I decided I had to give it a go. For those of you who don't know, this is a non-fiction, comedic look down the human digestive system. Now, I really wanted to love this book. Not that I didn't like it; It was very interesting and well written; but I just discovered it wasn't really my favorite genre. I am definitely more of a fiction/memoir girl, so it was just a little hard to get into. However, if you are a fan of non-fiction, I would definitely recommend it!

Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs // Augusten Burroughs has been one of my all-time favorite authors ever since I read Running With Scissors (which I highly recommend). Magical Thinking is a collection of essays about random events in Burrough's life, and it's hilarious.

Every Day by David Levithan // So, I really like teen fiction (judge me), but I only like it if it's a little different from the rest of the "teen fiction" books. Like, I don't really like reading about a girl going through high school, but if she's a lesbian midget albino going through high school, I'll find it more interesting (if that makes sense?) Anyways, this book is about a boy who wakes up every day in a different person's body. I really liked it, definitely worth the read!

Look Me In The Eye by John Elder Robinson // I really liked this one. It's a memoir, where Robinson describes growing up with Aspergers Syndrome before it even had a name. I found it even more interesting, because the author is actually the brother of Augusten Burroughs, who has mentioned John in his own books. It was so interesting to read about their relationship from both sides.

The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna // I'm going to be 100% honest with you, I haven't finished this book yet. It started out a little slow, and I'm hoping for it to pick up. It's another teen read that I picked up just for the heck of it. I'll let you read the synopsis here, because it's kind of confusing to explain. It's a super interesting premise, I just hope it picks up the pace!

I hope you have a happy Wednesday! If you have any books to recommend for me, I would love it! (I love memoirs, teen fiction, and books on strange topics and mental illness, if that helps!) Thanks :)

  1. I used to read lots also, but then as I grew up those numbers dwindled. I am kind of smitten with the idea of visiting my local library and searching for a good book in the shelves. I might just start doing this!
